Xtratuf Has a Solution for Your Outdoor Footwear Problem

I was halfway to a Hawaiian waterfall when SNAP — one of my sandals broke — and that was the last straw.

Hawaii is an outdoor enthusiasts dream, and while living there, I had tried everything for outdoor footwear, for waterfalls, beaches, and everything in between.

I grabbed multiple pairs of old shoes to run down the road to get to the beach, but they were soon waterlogged, filled with sand, and too smelly to save. I honestly hoped someone would steal them on the beach when I paddled out so that I wouldn’t have to deal with them — but no one saw any value in their beat up condition.

I also grabbed pairs of sandals, but with no support, they each caused pain in my hips. Plus, with no traction, it felt like I was ice skating half the time. Even worse, they were cheap, and while hiking to a waterfall in the Hawaiian jungle, snapped before I was even halfway there.

I went the rest of the way barefoot, and right then and there decided to give up on outdoor footwear. It wasn’t worth the hassle — here I was carrying a busted pair of sandals while hiking barefoot — and it certainly wasn’t worth the cost.

I was barefoot from then on … until I stepped on a thorn running out to surf. That led to an urgent care visit and a few days out of the water during a bombing winter swell.

All of this, combined with having kids, made me keep an eye out for any new footwear innovations that would hold up in the Hawaiian sand and Hawaiian jungle — while being affordable.

Truth be told, I didn’t think I would find something. But then, a friend tipped me off to Xtratuf’s Riptide — and I quickly discovered it’s the solution to all your outdoor footwear problems.

The Riptide is a molded BioLite — eco-friendlier high performance EVA — slip-on sneaker. Here’s what I love about it.

#1: The Riptide’s functionality is extraordinary.

There’s no doubt about it: this shoe works.

It has drainage holes, making it the perfect shoe for any water-based adventures. It has shoe-like grip, as if you’re wearing a pair of brand new shoes. And with their unique molding, they are extremely light to carry around, whether in a backpack or on your feet.

#2: The Riptide shoes are super comfortable.

Whether you’re going on a ten mile Hawaiian waterfall hike, or you’re headed to the beach with your family during the summer time, these shoes will be comfortable every step of the way — and in my personal experience — no blisters!

#3: The Riptide is acutally stylish.

You probably wondered why I didn't buy a pair of water shoes for my outdoor adventures.

Well, they look terrible — all functionality and no style. That’s what makes the Riptide the go to water shoe. It does what traditional water shoes do, but more — with style.

If you’re wearing these on an outdoor adventure, you won’t have to hide your feet to get the instagram shot.

Oh, and if that’s not enough, Xtratuf has an endless amount of colors, including for kids.

#4: The Riptide is super affordable.

At $58 (with kids models being in the $30 range), the Riptide is cheaper than the amount I’ve spent on shoes and sandals over the years. For the quality you're getting — a durable outdoor shoe that will last adventure after adventure — that's a pretty mellow price point.

The Bottom Line

I experienced firsthand how Xtratuf’s Riptide shoe — thanks to its versatility, comfort, style and price — is the ultimate shoe for all things outdoors, whether you are hiking, headed to the beach, surfing, camping, or anything in between.

If you plan on doing anything outdoors related in the foreseeable future, trust me: you have to get your own pair, which you can get right here
