As a surf dad, I'll be the first to tell you: there's nothing worse than a cold child on the beach.
I'm cold blooded, and my kids take after me. Unfortunately. I'm the guy that's in a 4:3 while everyone else is in a 3:2 — and I'll wear a wetsuit cruising on the beach long after everyone else has changed.
Once a year, we go to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We have scored great weather and waves for the past few years, but this year, our luck ran out. One of the biggest North Easters of the year followed us up the East Coast, resulting in coastal erosion, flooding, and houses falling into the ocean — and for us, cold children.

However, I knew if we were going to surf storm surf, it was going to be chilly. And the secret to a happy family on the beach are warm kids.
That's where dryrobe comes in. They make the warmest and most comfortable surf robes out there for adults, and best of all, they make the same excellent product in children sizes.

Throughout our trip in the Outer Banks — whether we were on the beach, cruising, sleeping while the wind whistled above us — she refused to take it off. While other people were pelted with raindrops, she stayed dry underneath the water-resistant dryrobe exterior.
Luana was the warmest kid on the beach ... albeit, she was the only one.
There's no doubt about it: kids are brutally honest. While we as adults can sugarcoat things, such as finding the positive in a product that we know isn't good quality, kids don't. Not only would Luana not take off the children's dryrobe; she frequently commented in her brutally honest fashion how soft, comfortable, and warm it was — and never complained.
The dryrobe became her favorite piece of clothing, and by the end of our trip, it was something she refused to let out of her sight.

If the dryrobe looks big on her, that's by design. This extra coverage not only helps her easily change in and out of her swimsuits; it adds an extra protective element.
In her own words, it was like a giant and soft teddy bear had its arms wrapped around you.

For kids, the inside fur is part of the secret sauce, and for adults, I love the fact that it has fancy pockets for keys, phone, and accessories — Luana became my personal carrier for everything that didn't need to get wet in my pockets.

The bottom line?
We're heading into winter, so it's the perfect time to pick up the warmest piece of surf gear you'll ever own. If you don't already have a dryrobe, I highly recommend you add it to your quiver of surf gear. The era of using a soured out towel and freezing during the pre or post surf process is over — a dryrobe will dramatically enhance your surf experience, and will help you stay in the water longer.
And if you're a parent like me, the children's product is built with the same rugged, waterproof outer shell and ultra-warm synthetic lining as the adult version.
Price wise, dryrobe's products for children range from $65-$160. It's an extremely affordable price for something that works — and something that is durable enough to last a long time, even in the harshest of elements.
Take it from me: your kid will use it and love it, and you'll score brownie points with your significant other for making such a wise purchase (I know I did).
Best of all, you can choose from a handful of different options, including one version that supports USA Surfing — check 'em out right here.
dryrobe has become a household brand name in the surfing world, from supporting amazing athletes like Andrew Cotton and Izzi Gomez, to sponsoring one of our favorite organizations, USA Surfing. If you haven't already, you will start seeing them pop up at surf events all around the country.
