The Best Protein Bars for Surfers, Ranked

Updated: Oct 22

As surfers, we're constantly on the go, whether that's chasing waves, or rushing to get back to work after a surf session went longer than anticipated. And as we're on the go, we're constantly burning energy, and it's critical that we give our body fuel.

In today's day and age, nutrition can be confusing and complex, which leads to the question: what's the best fuel for surfers on the go?

With waves to catch, running this company, and kids, I was wondering the same thing, and set out to find the best protein bar for surfers today.

#1: JAMBAR Organic Artisan Energy Bar

Remember PowerBar? Of course you do; they were the OG of protein bars. They were delicious, full of protein, and best of all, actually good for you. The founders are back with a new creation: JAMBAR.

The protein bar is built around organic and whole-food ingredients, using ancient grains, nut butters, fruit-juices and other real-food elements. Oh, and if that's not enough for ya, each bar provides about 10 g of protein.

Compared to other protein bars, JAMBARs have the most diverse array of flavors, from Peanut Butter Malt Melody to Musical Mango, Chocolate Cha Cha and more. I may or may not be eating one as I type this...

For all of these reasons, JAMBAR is #1 on our list of protein bars for surfers. Get yourself a box right here.

#2: ALOHA Plant‑Based Protein Bar

Looking for a good amount of protein on the go? The ALOHA bar is designed for the plant-based consumer or anyone wanting a cleaner ingredient profile with a stronger protein hit than many snack-bars. Many flavors provide around 14 g of protein (via brown rice protein + pumpkin seed protein), while remaining vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and avoiding sugar alcohols in many varieties.

An added bonus is that Aloha bars taste sweet and delicious, and you can pick them up in any food store.

#3: KIND Protein Bar

If you're a fan of nuts and looking for a snack bar, try Kind Bars.

KIND bars are familiar, widely available, and emphasize real-food ingredients (nuts, whole grains, etc.).

Their “Protein” line offers higher protein than their standard bars (some variants ~12 g plant protein), but many of their bars remain in the moderate-protein category (for example 4–8 g protein for some non-protein lines).

#4: CLIF BUILDERS Protein Bar

The bar that has the most protein on our list: Clif Builders.

The BUILDERS line delivers around 20 g of protein per bar in many flavors. It’s obviously aimed at high-energy use-cases (post-workout recovery, endurance activity, hunger-driven situations). The trade-offs to consider: you’ll often see higher calories, higher carbs/sugars, and more “bar-like” macro loads, something less ideal for casual snacking or less active moments.

Protein Bars for Surfers

There you have it: each protein bar has it's own list of advantages, so that's why its important to pick the right one for you and your needs, though we highly recommend Jambars as the best all-around protein bar today.
